Brian, your blurred burny particle effects are something I'd like a walkthrough on because you do them so well. I dig the symmetry of the mask with the slight imperfections and the overall value of everything is just outstanding. You've got smoke texture down. Like ... check that one off the list of stuff to have mastered because damn. The fire specks seem slightly too formulaic, but the effect is so clean I can't fault you much for it. Great (re)work! (cough post this on Level Up cough)

Rhunyc responds:

Oh thanks for the Level Up! idea! I'll get to that! Haha.

Also, I really appreciate you taking the time to write this review! Thanks man. :D

Very impressive the detail in the scales is well appreciated. Your transition to the dragon's belly is subtle from the scales but I understand how much time that sort of thing takes. I'm most impressed with the dragon's eye and how you've effectively built the scales. The volume is very believable. What could help aside from atmospheric perspective is blur for more depth. I understand if that's difficult because with my work, doing detail and then blurring it seems so counterproductive but sometimes it really boosts depth.

Overall great stuff.

Thanks for the thoughtful post! I agree with you. Using blur would probably help push the scale of the painting in a very realistic manner. Unfortunately I don't have the knowledge of applying it in such a manner at this point. I was aware of that at the time I did the painting. Just gotta practice more :D

You've got all of the bells and whistles on this one. Twitter feed design, Hulk being too tall, Shwarma reference. I'm really digging it!

NickyParson responds:

thank you : )

Great concept. The non-reflective hand is stellar! The reflection is flatter and doesn't show volume quite as clearly. I think it has to deal with the flatter shading and interior lines. Overall well done!

chronicbite responds:

Thank you so much for your feedback :D I guess you are right about the reflection not showing as much volume. I did experimentate with diferent (flatter) reflections, but I felt the drawing lost character, so I just admitted the surface as an extremely shiny (mirror like) surface.
If I can get some free time from school Ill see if I can alter it in any way.
Cya. ;)

i could be missing something about your whole story here, but if you isolate the head and foreshortened arm of the foreground character , you will know that it is a man's face and hand. the hair breasts and pant style are about all that tell me it's a woman. it's really well done aside from physical male/female differences. movement, shading, colors and texture are all solid

MikeLuckas responds:

A man's hand. Yup. Sure.

amazing consistency and imaginative way to tell the story of this mythological character. great elements being placed all around. love it

Mahjix responds:

Thank you!! :}

great use of lighting to set the scene and of course work in repetition the hand is a little tough to convince me, but next to datass, who can complain? the goopy thing is starting to be pretty 'in' right now and i don't really get why. also as stated before the neck is too bold in shading and the shape is really harsh in comparison the curvy bum

Mahjix responds:

Yeah, for whatever reason, I'm afraid of drawing thinner necks...

Hands

you can charcoal them. feel privileged, this is my first 10 for non-flash work on this site. :D

I'm big on hands ... the mark of a true artist. I still hate feet though.

MikeS responds:

Thanks for the 10 and review! Yeah the grid really helps with blowing things up for me. Let's me get a sketch down quicker and allows me to focus on the shading/form. Really pleased with how the hands turned out. Never thought about drawing feet though.. lol
